People in America still repair televisions? Very informative and useful.
@rhblakeman THANKS I REALLY APPRECIATED!….
@xxsurcentralxx CD293 is just a type designation by Sancon China for a can type radial lead aluminum electrolytic. It’s only an 85C rated line, you should get a 105C replacement. As Dave mentioned the 220uF 450V is your main consideration and you may want to measure your present one in mm and get one about the same size. Panasonic, United Chemicon and some others are better replacements and are usually low ESR. Digikey has all the specs and you can choose to ship by USPS.
@GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks Dave
@rhblakeman My cap tester is the cap 88 made by electronic design specialists. The cap wizard may be a better choice. The blue ESR is also suppose to be a good choice.
Dave
What’s the make/model of that ESR tester you have in the video. You probably mentioned it in earlier comments but I’m not searching for it
@TehUberCyberBeast Only the few remaining that specialize in retro, antique, etc repairs are the ones making money. Not enough units left to keep lots of shops going full time with CRT based repairs and parts, as I mentioned, are getting hard to find. Besides you can connect a game console to a new LCD TV as easily as you can to an old CRT TV. Only problems are in connection of mono, CGA and EGA to new monitors or TVs.
@TehUberCyberBeast With the CRTs many shops have closed and gone out of business not transitioning into LCD, plasma and projection. Some CRT sets have a problem with lack of available parts like flybacks, proprietary chips, etc. I gave up on CRT monitors and TVs 10 yrs ago and sold my high voltage stuff and focused on the PC, laptop and printer repairs and occasional TV and monitor repair. Even LCD monitors aren’t worth repairing when parts and labor exceeds cost for replacing
@GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks a lot I will do that. I actually have a crt that isn’t turning on. I will be replacing the flyback as it seems to have gotten too hot and turned a part next to it different colors as well as the HOT. How do we check for bad flybacks? I see no cracks. I have basic things like multimeter, and stuff like that. How do I find out what parts are what if there is no writing on them and can’t find a schematic? The heat colored part has no writing on it.

@GrantsPassTVRepairs Okay.
The reason I asked is because there are retrocomputing and gaming communities who still use CRT TVs today for use with their old computers, videos games consoles, and arcade boards – and even people who don’t use CRTs any more still might find it interesting.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.
@TehUberCyberBeast I thought about doing some videos on CRT TVs, but considering they are being phased out I figured it would be best to stick with the newer sets.
@GrantsPassTVRepairs Hi. Are you going to do any videos on CRT TV repair?
@xxsurcentralxx @xxsurcentralxx I don’t know what the cd293 stands for but the other numbers are what you need to be concerned with. Digikey should sell a capacitor of this value.
hey i love your videos!…i have a blown capacitor but i cant find it is a cd293 220uf 450v and it says 25/085/21!…do you kno were i could find it??….
@massue21
A think white line is generally a bad display.
I have RCA T.v that have a bright white line in the middle of the screen and i have other t.v with all colors on the screen are wrong can you help me.
@GrantsPassTVRepairs The main/main logic board was under 3 easily removed plates with cooling holes and along side the power supply. You lift up this assembly and can access screws to remove the smaller T-Conn board metal cover panel. I am going to reassemble to test the screen in darkness. There is no visible damage, fuse is good, caps look good but as you said caps may look good but may be bad. An old girlfriend gave it to me to examine after a repairman said it was the “logic” board.
@bin1127 Right?! I thought I was losing it for a second.
finally something good that offers 3D! the one bad thing for me with 3D is that all the glasses have tinted lenses…wtf! who wants to watch something with lenses that dull any colour?! without having to use the glasses sounds great! i knew Sony were developing one but had no idea it had come this far, i wanted to get myself a 3D soon but i might just hold out for something like this, any idea on price for the UK?
My Dream Smart TV:
72″
OLED
4K
3mm Bezel
Glasses-Free 3D with Multiple Picture Angles
And I’ll it for $1,000 in 2015 when There are 8K Bezeless 100” AMOLED QUAD CORE TV’s with 1000 picture angles.
I want this
just wish it was oled
when the tv is show on the video it makes my laptop screen clearer.
so what happens to all my 1080p blu rays and my blu ray player and tv they are worthless
Wow very good detail. Too bad most TV signals still broadcast in 480p/SD res. We need to get TV over on fiberoptc signals so that people can stream 4k or 8k res.
I swear I saw 3D through this youtube video. Givvvveee meeeeee nauuu!!!
@TruXByakuya Lmao at a TV that cost 3-6k being cheap for people working full-time, for people earning $100,000 per year 6k is 6% of their annual income no way I am spending 6% of my annual income on a TV. Anyone who purchases a TV for $11,000 is an idiot regardless of income level.
that resolution is so high you could probably sit about 2.0 meters away and use it as a computer monitor @ 55″ it would be a very similar pixel pitch to a 27″ 1080p monitor.
900,000 yen= $11,580
Time to start working and stop playing Skyrim!
i can see in 200k beat that
WOW, nothing more to say really
They also have 8K
Wow, 1080 is only just becoming a common standard and let’s introduce a new one! As someone who creates 3d content, my message to the tools who cook up these new standards is buy me a render farm or stick your ridiculous resolutions up thy posterior.
you had me at 4K
The future is NOW! Im writing Santa for 1 of these xD
QFHD is not true 4K
@Demov12 Lol a millionaire? When HDTV first came out they we’re about the same price 10k. 900k yen = 11850 USD. We when from 480p to 720p and the cost was tremendous. Now it’s 1080p to 2160p with high-end models still ranging from 3-6k this is pretty cheap unless you have no job or work part time at mcdonalds.
Waaaaay too expensive. You gonna have to be a millionaire to buy this.
@ 0:19 The display now come with a ultra high def girl that smiles when you get home and she turns the TV on for you……..MAN I feel so alone…….TT^ TT
though the 3d picture can only adjust to one person’s view…”ok guys let’s watch this awsome movie!! one at a time.”
( I still find it very impressive :] )
